
Agárdi Gábor
Gábor Agárdi (Szeged, 14 August 1922 – Budapest, 19 January 2006) was a Hungarian actor, awarded the title of Actor of the Nation. His stage career, which began in Szeged, culminated in his joining the company of the National Theatre in Budapest (Nemzeti Színház) in 1964, where he remained a key member until his retirement in 1985. Known for his great versatility, he excelled in both dramatic and comedic roles, characterized by a commanding stage presence and a deep, recognizable voice. Alongside his theatre work, he had an extensive film career, appearing in over one hundred films. His most celebrated performances include roles in classic films such as *A tizedes meg a többiek* (The Corporal and the Others, 1965) and *Egri csillagok* (Stars of Eger, 1968). For his artistic contributions, he received Hungary's highest honors, including the Jászai Mari Prize (1959, 1962), the prestigious Kossuth Prize (1985), and, in 2000, he was among the first artists to be named Actor of the Nation.
