Åke Fridell (Gävle, 23 June 1919 – Stockholm, 26 August 1985) was a Swedish actor known for his prolific career in theatre and film. Primarily active between the 1940s and 1960s, he was distinguished by his imposing stage presence, working for many years at the Malmö Stadsteater. His international fame is inextricably linked to his collaboration with director Ingmar Bergman, who directed him in memorable roles. His most celebrated performances include the blacksmith Plog in *The Seventh Seal* (1957), the coachman Frid in *Smiles of a Summer Night* (1955), the lover of Isak Borg's wife in *Wild Strawberries* (1957), and Tubal in *The Magician* (1958). With a filmography of over one hundred titles, Fridell established himself as one of the most reliable and versatile character actors in Swedish cinema of his time, capable of effectively portraying both comedic and dramatic roles and leaving a distinctive mark on post-war Nordic cinema.
