Akemi Yamaguchi
Akemi Yamaguchi is an acclaimed Japanese animator and character designer, best known for her work with Studio Pierrot in the 1980s. Her career is inextricably linked to the anime adaptation of *Urusei Yatsura*, for which she handled the character design, defining the iconic look of characters such as Lum and establishing a visual standard for the entire production. She continued her fruitful collaboration on Rumiko Takahashi's works by also creating the character designs for the *Maison Ikkoku* series, where she also served as an animation director on several episodes. Although she has not received any major formal awards, her recognition lies in the enormous cultural impact of her work. Her style, capable of faithfully translating the original author's art with a soft and personal touch, is considered one of the most influential and representative of Japanese animation of that decade, consolidating her reputation as a key figure in the industry.
