Alan Curtis (Mason, November 17, 1934 – Florence, July 15, 2015) was an American harpsichordist, musicologist, and conductor, a pioneer in the rediscovery of Baroque music on original instruments. After studying musicology at the University of Illinois, he taught for many years at the University of California, Berkeley, before permanently moving to Italy. In 1977, he founded the ensemble Il Complesso Barocco, with which he made numerous internationally acclaimed recordings and productions. His work focused mainly on the rediscovery and philological performance of 17th and 18th-century works, particularly by Claudio Monteverdi, Francesco Cavalli, and Georg Friedrich Händel, reviving masterpieces such as *Alcina*, *Ariodante*, and *Rodelinda*. His rigorous approach and interpretive sensitivity profoundly influenced the performance of early music. Among his various awards, in 2012 he received the prestigious Händel-Preis from the city of Halle for his contribution to the dissemination of the composer's works.
