Albert Bras

Albert Bras (1866-1937) was a French architect and painter. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the guidance of Louis-Jules André, his career received a decisive boost in 1892 when he won the prestigious Grand Prix de Rome for architecture, which allowed him to stay at the Villa Medici. His professional activity was concentrated mainly in the Auvergne region, particularly in the city of Riom, where he produced his most significant works. These include the Bourse du Travail, an example of eclectic architecture, and the Musée Francisque Mandet, for which he oversaw the renovation and expansion. Alongside his architectural work, Bras cultivated a prolific career as a painter, dedicating himself primarily to landscapes and scenes of the Auvergne countryside, with a style influenced by Post-Impressionism. For his artistic merits, in 1926 he was awarded the title of Knight of the Legion of Honour, one of the highest recognitions of the French Republic.
