Albert Finney (1936-2019) was a British actor of stage and screen, and one of the leading figures of the British New Wave. He rose to fame with the film *Saturday Night and Sunday Morning* (1960) and cemented his status as an international star with *Tom Jones* (1963), which earned him his first Academy Award nomination. His versatile career includes memorable performances as Hercule Poirot in *Murder on the Orient Express* (1974), the lead actor in *The Dresser* (1983), the alcoholic consul in *Under the Volcano* (1984), and lawyer Ed Masry in *Erin Brockovich* (2000). In total, he received five Academy Award nominations, without ever winning the statuette. His numerous accolades include a BAFTA Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and an Emmy Award, which he won for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in *The Gathering Storm* (2002). Alongside his film career, he maintained a prestigious stage career, particularly with the Royal National Theatre, establishing himself as one of the most respected actors of his generation.
