
Alberta Watson
Alberta Watson (born Faith Susan Alberta Watson; Toronto, March 6, 1955 – Toronto, March 21, 2015) was a Canadian actress. She began her career in local theatre and television, gaining her first notable recognition with the film *In Praise of Older Women* (1978), which earned her a Genie Award nomination for Best Actress. Her international fame was primarily established through iconic television roles, particularly as the cold and calculating Madeline in the spy series *La Femme Nikita* (1997-2001) and as Erin Driscoll, the Director of CTU, in the fourth season of *24* (2004-2005). On the big screen, she was notable for her work in independent and auteur films such as Atom Egoyan's *The Sweet Hereafter* (1997), *Spanking the Monkey* (1994), and *Hedwig and the Angry Inch* (2001). Praised for her great versatility and the intensity of her performances, over the course of her career she also received a Gemini Award for her performance in the Canadian series *The Newsroom*.
