Aldo Grotti, born in Macerata in 1944, is an Italian painter and engraver, considered one of the prominent exponents of figurative painting in the second half of the twentieth century. Trained at the Art Institute of his hometown, he began exhibiting his work in the mid-1960s, quickly establishing himself on the national art scene. His artistic work is distinguished by a sharp, almost hyper-realistic realism, drawing on the tradition of Metaphysical painting and Magical Realism. His works, predominantly still lifes, interiors, and landscapes, are characterized by a suspended, silent atmosphere in which objects and spaces take on an enigmatic and symbolic significance. His career has been marked by significant awards and participation in prestigious art exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadriennale. Critics have unanimously praised his stylistic consistency and exceptional technical mastery, in both oil painting and engraving.
