Alexis Smith, born Gladys Smith (June 8, 1921 – June 9, 1993), was a Canadian-born American actress and singer. She became a major star for Warner Bros. in the 1940s, known for her elegant beauty and aristocratic bearing. During this period, she starred alongside major leading men, including Errol Flynn in *Gentleman Jim* (1942) and Cary Grant in *Night and Day* (1946), and also appeared in major productions such as the biopic *Rhapsody in Blue* (1945). After stepping away from Hollywood, she experienced an artistic resurgence on Broadway, where she achieved her greatest recognition: in 1972, she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her acclaimed performance in Stephen Sondheim's *Follies*. She later returned to acting in supporting roles in film, appearing in films such as *The Age of Innocence* (1993), and in television, solidifying her reputation as a versatile and refined performer.
