Alfonso Arfi (Sesto San Giovanni, 1937 – Rome, 2007) was an Italian poet and writer. A prominent figure of the post-hermetic generation, he collaborated with the journal *Il Verri*, moving closer to the positions of the neo-avant-garde. His poetic work, characterized by a rigorous language and profound existential reflection, explores themes such as memory, absence, and the relationship between word and silence. His career is marked by key collections such as *Il vecchio e il nuovo* (1961), *La vita promessa* (1981), *Superstite* (1993), and *Le forme del fiato* (1997). His work as a prose writer culminated in the novel *Le acque del sabato* (1987), a work for which he received the Viareggio Prize and the Mondello Prize. In 1997, he was awarded the prestigious Librex-Guggenheim "Eugenio Montale" Prize for his literary work as a whole.
