Aline Kominsky

Aline Kominsky-Crumb (née Goldsmith; 1948–2022) was an American cartoonist and artist, and a pioneering figure in the underground comix movement. Her intentionally raw and anti-aesthetic style was characterized by a ruthlessly honest autobiographical approach, in which she explored themes such as body image, sexuality, and Jewish identity with self-deprecating humor. Among her most significant works was co-founding the feminist anthology *Twisted Sisters* with Diane Noomin, a crucial publication that gave a voice to numerous alternative female artists. Her most celebrated series is *Dirty Laundry Comics*, created and drawn with her husband Robert Crumb, in which the couple documented their daily life. Her solo collections include *Love That Bunch* and *Need More Love*. Kominsky-Crumb's influence as a key female voice in independent comics is widely recognized, and in 2018, she was awarded the Inkpot Award for her outstanding contribution to the art of comics.
