Alla Osipenko

Alla Evgen'evna Osipenko, born in Leningrad in 1932, is a Russian ballerina considered one of the most significant of the 20th century. After graduating from the Vaganova Academy in 1950, she joined the Kirov Ballet (now the Mariinsky Ballet), becoming a principal dancer in 1954. Her career was marked by memorable performances, particularly in the role of the Mistress of the Copper Mountain in Yuri Grigorovich's *The Stone Flower*, which was created for her, as well as in ballets such as *Spartacus* and *The Legend of Love*. She excelled in the classical repertoire for her impeccable technique, elegant lines, and profound dramatic intensity. In 1971, she left the Kirov to join Leonid Jacobson's "Choreographic Miniatures" company, exploring new styles, and subsequently collaborated with Boris Eifman. For her artistic merits, she was awarded the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1960.
