Amin Nawabi
Amin Nawabi is the pseudonym of the protagonist and subject of the animated documentary film *Flee* (2021), directed by Jonas Poher Rasmussen. His biography, revealed over the course of the film, describes his experience as an Afghan refugee who fled Kabul in the 1980s following the withdrawal of Soviet forces. His journey led him through a dangerous and traumatic odyssey to Denmark, where he was able to build a new life and embark on a successful academic career. Nawabi has no published works under his own name; his sole and essential 'work' is his own testimony, which forms the narrative core of the film. Thanks to *Flee*, his story has received immense international recognition, culminating in a historic milestone: three nominations at the 2022 Academy Awards in the categories of Best International Feature Film, Best Animated Feature Film, and Best Documentary Feature, cementing the universal importance of his personal and collective story.
