André Morell (born Cecil André Mesritz; 1909–1978) was a British actor whose career spanned five decades, from theatre to film and television. Recognized for his imposing presence and authoritative diction, he specialized in roles of authority figures such as doctors, officers, and academics. His most celebrated performances include Doctor Watson in the Hammer film *The Hound of the Baskervilles* (1959), alongside Peter Cushing's Sherlock Holmes, and Professor Bernard Quatermass in the influential BBC science-fiction serial *Quatermass and the Pit* (1958-59), a role considered by many to be his definitive portrayal. His international career also includes a significant part in the epic film *Ben-Hur* (1959). Also active in voice work, he voiced Elrond in an early radio version of *The Lord of the Rings*. He was a founding member and president of the British actors' union, Equity, a testament to his status within the profession.
