André S. Labarthe (1931-2018) was a French critic, director, producer, and actor, a central figure associated with the magazine *Cahiers du Cinéma* and the Nouvelle Vague movement. His most important work is the monumental television series *Cinéastes de notre temps*, created in 1964 with Janine Bazin. Through this collection of cinematic portraits, he documented and analyzed the work of key filmmakers such as John Cassavetes, Jean-Luc Godard, and Luis Buñuel, personally directing numerous episodes. His approach revolutionized the way cinema was presented on television, favoring long interviews and stylistic analysis. At the same time, he remained highly active as a critic and essayist, helping to shape the cinematic debate of his time. He also appeared as an actor in several works by Nouvelle Vague directors, including Godard's *Vivre sa vie* (My Life to Live). For his outstanding contribution to film culture, he received an honorary César Award in 2012.
