Angela Yvonne Davis is an American political activist, academic, and author, and a prominent figure in feminism, Marxism, and the prison abolition movement. Her long academic career has been primarily based at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she is Professor Emerita of History of Consciousness and Feminist Studies. An international icon of political radicalism since the 1970s, she has consolidated her thought through extensive non-fiction writing. Her most influential works include *Women, Race & Class* (1981), a foundational text of intersectional feminism; *Are Prisons Obsolete?* (2003), a manifesto for the abolitionist movement; and her acclaimed *Autobiography* (1974). For her intellectual and political commitment, she has received numerous international awards, including the Lenin Peace Prize and induction into the National Women's Hall of Fame. Her work continues to influence the global debate on social justice, systemic racism, and human rights.
