
Anita Sharp-Bolster
Anita Sharp-Bolster (1894–1985) was an Irish character actress, primarily active during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Following a solid stage training, she moved to the United States, where she became a familiar face in dozens of films, specializing in roles as stern, eccentric, or authoritarian women such as governesses, maids, and spinsters. Her prolific film career includes appearances in numerous classics, including *Gaslight* (1944), *The Canterville Ghost* (1944), *The Lost Weekend* (1945), *The Woman in White* (1948), and *Sabrina* (1954). Although she did not receive major official awards, her recognition lies in her consistent and reliable screen presence, which allowed her to contribute brief yet memorable performances to a vast number of films, solidifying her reputation as one of the most effective supporting actresses of her generation. She also worked in several television productions during the 1950s and 1960s, before her retirement from acting.
