Ann Savage

Ann Savage, born Bernice Maxine Lyon (Columbia, February 19, 1921 – Los Angeles, December 25, 2008), was an American actress. She became known primarily for her roles in numerous B-movies during the 1940s. Her most celebrated and iconic performance is that of Vera, the ruthless femme fatale in the 1945 film noir *Detour*, directed by Edgar G. Ulmer. This role cemented her reputation as one of the most memorable dark ladies in cinema history, defining an archetype of a cynical and aggressive woman. Her film career slowed significantly after the 1950s, leading to a long period of retirement from the screen. She returned to the spotlight with an acclaimed appearance in Guy Maddin's 2007 film *My Winnipeg*, which was her final performance. Considered a cult cinema icon, her work in *Detour* has been preserved in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress for its cultural and historical significance.
