Annabella, the stage name of Suzanne Georgette Charpentier (1907-1996), was a French actress of great popularity during the 1930s and 1940s. After establishing herself in French cinema, she became a leading actress thanks to directors such as René Clair, who directed her in successful films like *Le Million* (1931). Her dramatic talent earned her the prestigious Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival in 1936 for her performance in *Veille d'armes*. Her career took on an international dimension with her move to Hollywood, where she starred in films such as *Suez* (1938) alongside Tyrone Power, who became her husband. Among her most celebrated works is also Marcel Carné's masterpiece *Hôtel du Nord* (1938). After the Second World War, she returned to work predominantly in Europe, alternating between film and theater, before retiring from the screen in the early 1950s.
