Antoine Bourseiller
Antoine Bourseiller (1930-2013) was a French actor, stage director, and opera director, a prominent figure in the renewal of the post-war French stage. His career took off in the 1950s, as he gained recognition for his bold and innovative stagings of contemporary playwrights such as Jean Genet, Michel de Ghelderode, and Jean Vauthier, as well as classics reinterpreted with a modern approach. Throughout his long career, he directed numerous prestigious institutions, including the Théâtre de Poche-Montparnasse, the Centre dramatique national du Sud-Est, and the Opéra national de Lorraine. His work also successfully extended to opera direction, where he brought his rigorous and unconventional approach, and to an acting career in theatre and film, collaborating with directors such as Éric Rohmer. For his fundamental contribution to the performing arts, he was awarded the Grand Prix national du théâtre in 1982.
