Antonin Artaud

**Antonin Artaud (1896-1948)**, a central figure in 20th-century theatre and theoretician of the "Theatre of Cruelty," was also a film actor, albeit with a limited but significant filmography.

His most iconic and memorable role is undoubtedly that of the monk Jean Massieu in Carl Theodor Dreyer's **"The Passion of Joan of Arc" (1928)**. Here, his intense, almost feverish acting, and his expressive face contributed to creating a character of remarkable psychological impact, an embodiment of clerical intransigence.

He also appeared in Abel Gance's **"Napoléon" (1927)**, where his screen presence contributed to roles that were often unsettling or highly emotionally charged. Although he was not a prolific actor, his film appearances are considered significant for their originality and the distinctive mark Artaud left on each character, reflecting his artistic philosophy.
