Antonio Neiwiller
Antonio Neiwiller (Naples, March 9, 1948 – Polla, November 6, 1993) was an Italian actor, director, and playwright, and a central figure of the Nuovo Teatro (New Theatre). His career took off in Naples in the 1970s, where he was among the founders of the Falso Movimento group along with Mario Martone. He later contributed to the creation of the Teatri Uniti company, joining his path with those of Toni Servillo and Martone. Recognized as a master by an entire generation of artists, his research focused on the actor's body, the voice, and the fragmentation of the scenic text. His most significant works include *Titanic* (1982) and *L'altro sguardo* (1991), performances that testify to his radical and visionary approach. For his work, he received several Ubu Awards—Italy's most prestigious theatre prize—including one for Best Director in 1993 for *Storia di Cecco Rivolta*. His premature death cut short one of the most innovative and influential artistic careers in the Italian theatre scene of the late 20th century.
