Arthur Kennedy (1914-1990) was an American actor, known for his versatility and intense portrayals of complex and often tormented characters. He began his career on Broadway, where he won a Tony Award in 1949 for his role in Arthur Miller's *Death of a Salesman*. In film, he established himself as one of the most acclaimed character actors of his generation, earning five Academy Award nominations. He received four nominations for Best Supporting Actor for films such as *Champion* (1949), *Peyton Place* (1957), and *Some Came Running* (1958). His only nomination for Best Actor was for *Bright Victory* (1951), a role for which he won a Golden Globe. His extensive filmography also includes celebrated titles such as *High Sierra* (1941), *Rancho Notorious* (1952), *Lawrence of Arabia* (1962), and *Fantastic Voyage* (1966), solidifying his reputation as a reliable and highly talented performer in both supporting and leading roles.
