Arthur Loft (Denver, May 25, 1897 – Los Angeles, January 1, 1947) was a prolific American character actor, active primarily during the Golden Age of Hollywood. His career, spanning the 1930s and 1940s, is characterized by over two hundred film appearances in supporting roles. Specializing in portraying authoritative or morally ambiguous figures, he often played policemen, detectives, journalists, and businessmen. Among his most significant works are collaborations with major directors: he appeared in Frank Capra's *Mr. Smith Goes to Washington* (1939) and was a recurring face in the film noir of Fritz Lang, acting in films such as *The Woman in the Window* (1944) and *Scarlet Street* (1945). His other appearances include *The Blue Dahlia* (1946). Although he did not receive formal awards, his status is that of a solid and reliable professional, whose face became familiar to audiences thanks to his constant presence in numerous notable productions of the period.
