Arthur Smith
Arthur Smith (1921–2014) was an American multi-instrumentalist, composer, and record producer, and an influential figure in country and popular music. He is best known for his 1945 instrumental composition "Guitar Boogie," a track that anticipated elements of rock and roll and earned him the nickname "Arthur 'Guitar Boogie' Smith." Another of his key works is "Feudin' Banjos," written in 1955 with Don Reno, which achieved worldwide fame as "Dueling Banjos" on the soundtrack of the 1972 film *Deliverance*. Following a lawsuit over songwriting credit, Smith received official credit for the composition. His career also included hosting *The Arthur Smith Show*, one of the first nationally syndicated country music television shows, and managing a recording studio that produced artists such as James Brown. For his contributions, he was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.
