Arturo Bragaglia

Arturo Bragaglia (Frosinone, January 7, 1893 – Rome, January 21, 1962) was an Italian photographer and actor. The brother of director and photographer Anton Giulio, he was a pioneer of Futurist photodynamism alongside him before dedicating himself primarily to cinema. Beginning in the 1930s, he became one of the most prolific and recognizable character actors in the Italian cinematic landscape, appearing in over one hundred and fifty films. His slender figure and expressive face made him perfect for portraying nervous, pedantic, or humble characters. He worked with the leading directors of his era, including Alessandro Blasetti, Mario Camerini, and especially Vittorio De Sica, who directed him in masterpieces such as *Bicycle Thieves* (1948) and *Miracle in Milan* (1951). He also appeared in Federico Fellini's *La dolce vita* (1960). For his extraordinary career and contribution to Italian cinema, he was awarded a special Silver Ribbon in 1950.
