
Babek Ahmed Poor
Babak Ahmed Poor, born in 1949 in Abadan, is an Iranian film director, screenwriter, and producer, considered one of the leading figures of the Iranian New Wave. His career achieved international recognition with the 1984 film *The Runner* (Davandeh), a seminal work of post-revolutionary cinema acclaimed by critics worldwide. The film, which tells the story of a young orphan's struggle for survival in a port city, earned him the Golden Montgolfier at the Three Continents Festival in Nantes, projecting Iranian cinema onto the international stage. His subsequent work, *Water, Wind, Dust* (Ab, Bad, Khak) from 1989, continues the exploration of themes such as childhood, resilience, and the relationship between the individual and a hostile environment, consolidating his neorealist and poetic style. Through his works, Ahmed Poor has significantly contributed to defining the aesthetics and themes of modern Iranian auteur cinema.
