Béla Barsi
Béla Barsi (Budapest, August 6, 1906 – Budapest, September 6, 1968) was a Hungarian actor, considered one of the most iconic figures of post-war Hungarian cinema. A stage and film actor, his career peaked during the 1950s and 1960s, a period in which he became a leading character actor, often cast in the roles of peasants, workers, and authoritarian figures. With his chiseled face and intense screen presence, he worked with the most important directors of his time, including Zoltán Fábri and Miklós Jancsó. His most celebrated performances include roles in films such as *Körhinta* (Merry-Go-Round, 1956), *Ház a sziklák alatt* (The House Under the Rocks, 1958), and *Hideg napok* (Cold Days, 1966). For his extraordinary artistic contribution, Barsi received the highest honors of the Hungarian state: he was named Merited Artist in 1956, won the prestigious Kossuth Prize in 1957, and was awarded the title of Excellent Artist in 1965.
