Benjamin "Ben" Burtt is an American sound designer, film editor, director, and screenwriter, best known for his pioneering work with Lucasfilm. He created some of the most iconic sounds in film history, including the hum of the lightsaber, Darth Vader's breathing, the language of R2-D2, and the blaster fire for the *Star Wars* saga. His contributions also extend to the *Indiana Jones* series, for which he created the signature whip crack, and the Pixar film *WALL-E*, where he provided the voice and sound design for the titular character. He was also instrumental in creating the voice for *E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial*. His career has been honored with four Academy Awards, two of which were Special Achievement Awards for Sound Effects Editing. In addition to sound design, he has also worked as a film editor, notably on the *Star Wars* prequel trilogy, demonstrating his versatility and profound impact on the film industry.
