
Bendt Rothe
Bendt Rothe (1921-1989) was a Danish actor, director, and writer, a multifaceted figure in his country's cultural landscape. Trained at the Royal Danish Theatre School, he performed on the nation's most important stages, establishing himself as a highly regarded performer in both classical and modern repertoire. His film career was equally prolific, with appearances in over 70 films. Among his most memorable roles are those in Carl Theodor Dreyer's *Gertrud* (1964), the cult comedy *Martha* (1967), and the renowned television series *Matador*. In addition to acting, he successfully dedicated himself to stage direction and the writing of screenplays and plays. His artistic contribution was recognized with several awards, including the prestigious Bodil Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1968 for the film *Jeg er sgu min egen*. He is considered one of the most versatile and respected figures in 20th-century Danish theater and cinema.
