Bernard Noël

Bernard Noël (1930-2021) was a French writer, poet, essayist, and art critic, considered one of the most influential and complex voices in his country's contemporary literature. His vast literary output explores the connections between the body, language, image, and political power, constantly questioning the limits of representation. He became known to the general public with the erotic novel *Le Château de Cène* (1969), which was prosecuted for obscenity and became a symbol of the fight against censorship. In addition to prose, his work includes key poetry collections, such as *La Face de silence*, and numerous essays on art, in collaboration with artists like Zao Wou-Ki and Henri Michaux. Throughout his career, he received prestigious awards, notably the Grand Prix national de la poésie in 1992 and the Grand Prix de poésie de l'Académie française in 2016, crowning his eclectic intellectual and creative journey.
