George Bernard "Bernie" Worrell Jr. (Long Branch, April 19, 1944 – Everson, June 24, 2016) was an American keyboardist, composer, and producer, considered a key figure in the development of funk music. A founding member of George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic collective, Worrell was a pioneer in the use of the synthesizer, particularly the Minimoog, with which he created bass lines and soundscapes that defined the genre on iconic tracks such as "Flash Light" and "Aqua Boogie." His innovative style and virtuosity have influenced generations of musicians. After his time with P-Funk, he played a crucial role in the expanded lineup of Talking Heads, contributing significantly to the album *Speaking in Tongues* and the concert film *Stop Making Sense*, where he enriched their new wave sound with funk elements. His career also includes numerous solo albums and prestigious collaborations. In 1997, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Parliament-Funkadelic, and with the group, he also received a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
