Bertil Anderberg

Bertil Anderberg (1913-1991) was a Swedish actor whose career developed predominantly in theatre and film. Trained at the acting school of the Dramaten, the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, he became a prominent figure at the Gothenburg City Theatre, where he worked for many years. His international fame is inextricably linked to his collaboration with director Ingmar Bergman, for whom he played the memorable role of the jester Jof in the masterpiece *The Seventh Seal* (1957). His filmography, which includes over fifty films, also features another important Bergman film, *Summer with Monika* (1953). Although he was primarily a stage actor, his contribution to Swedish cinema was significant. For his work on stage, in 1956 he was awarded the prestigious Thalia Prize, one of Sweden's major theatre awards, presented by the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. He is remembered for the sensitivity and depth of his performances.
