Betty Furness (1916-1994) was an American actress, journalist, and influential consumer rights advocate. She began her career in the 1930s as a film actress, appearing in over 35 films for studios such as RKO and MGM, including *Magnificent Obsession* (1935). Her national fame grew exponentially between 1949 and 1960 when she became the spokesperson for Westinghouse Electric, presenting the company's products in live television commercials and becoming one of the most recognizable faces on American television. She later transformed her prominence into a platform for activism. In 1967, she was appointed Special Assistant for Consumer Affairs by President Lyndon B. Johnson. She continued her career as an investigative television journalist for WNBC and later for NBC's *Today* show, where her work earned her a prestigious Peabody Award in 1976, cementing her legacy as a pioneer in consumer protection.
