Betty Garrett
Betty Garrett was an American actress, singer, and dancer, known for her versatility and sharp comedic talent. Her career took off in the late 1940s with prominent roles in celebrated MGM musicals, including "On the Town" (1949), alongside Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, and "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" (1949). However, her rise in Hollywood was abruptly halted in the 1950s due to the Hollywood blacklist, which limited her professional opportunities for nearly two decades. Garrett gained renewed and widespread popularity in the 1970s, portraying two memorable characters in highly successful sitcoms: neighbor Irene Lorenzo in "All in the Family" and landlady Edna Babish in "Laverne & Shirley." For her acclaimed performance in "All in the Family," she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1974. She was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to the entertainment industry.
