
Betty Marsden
Betty Marsden (1919-1998) was a British actress, celebrated for her versatility and her pronounced comedic talent. Her fame is primarily linked to radio, where she became a prominent figure in the popular BBC series *Beyond Our Ken* and, most notably, *Round the Horne* alongside Kenneth Horne. In these programmes, she brought to life memorable characters such as the sensual Daphne Whitethigh, whose exclamation "many, many times!" became a catchphrase. Her film career includes supporting roles in the *Carry On* film series, including *Carry On Camping* (1969) and *Carry On Regardless* (1961), as well as appearances in films such as *The Wildcats of St Trinian's* (1980). In theatre, she was a respected performer, acting in the original London productions of Noël Coward plays such as *Blithe Spirit* and *Present Laughter*. For her performance in Lindsay Anderson's film *Brittania Hospital* (1982), she received a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, confirming her valued contribution to British cinema and entertainment.
