Bill Hickman

William "Bill" Hickman (1921–1986) was an American stuntman, stunt coordinator, and actor, primarily known for his pioneering work in cinematic car chases. His career is inextricably linked to some of the most iconic action sequences in film history. In *Bullitt* (1968), he not only played one of the hitmen but was also the driver of the black Dodge Charger that chased Steve McQueen's Ford Mustang, helping to choreograph the scene. Subsequently, in *The French Connection* (1971), he drove Gene Hackman's Pontiac LeMans during the celebrated chase under the elevated train line, a sequence he planned himself. He also coordinated and participated in the spectacular chase scene in *The Seven-Ups* (1973). Although he did not receive any major formal awards, Hickman is universally recognized as a master of his craft, whose approach elevated the realism and intensity of action sequences, influencing generations of filmmakers and stunt performers.
