
Bobby Knight
Robert Montgomery "Bobby" Knight (1940-2023), nicknamed "The General," was an American basketball coach, considered one of the most influential and successful figures in the history of college basketball. His career is primarily associated with the Indiana Hoosiers, which he coached for 29 seasons, winning three NCAA national championships (1976, 1981, 1987). His 1976 team remains the last to complete an undefeated season in men's Division I. Known for his demanding nature and fiery temper, Knight was a master of the "motion offense" and placed a meticulous emphasis on defense and his players' discipline. He also coached at Army and Texas Tech, accumulating a total of 902 career wins, an NCAA record at the time. In 1984, he led the U.S. national team to an Olympic gold medal in Los Angeles. For his achievements, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the College Basketball Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest coaches of all time.
