Bogumił Kobiela

Bogumił Kobiela (1931-1969) was a Polish film and theater actor, one of the most celebrated figures of the Polish Film School. After graduating from the Kraków Theatre School, he co-founded, along with Zbigniew Cybulski, the renowned student theater Bim-Bom in Gdańsk. His film career is inextricably linked to director Andrzej Munk, for whom he played memorable roles in films such as *Eroica* (1958) and, most notably, *Bad Luck* (Zezowate szczęście, 1960), where he masterfully embodied the figure of the tragicomic anti-hero overwhelmed by the events of history. He also appeared in works by other great directors, such as Andrzej Wajda's *Ashes and Diamonds* (1958). Appreciated for his extraordinary ability to blend comedy and drama, his primary recognition lies in his immense popularity and lasting influence on Polish cinema, rather than in formal awards. His promising career was tragically cut short by a car accident in 1969, at the age of just 38.
