Bonaventura Ibáñez

Bonaventura Ibáñez (1876-1932) was a Spanish actor, considered one of the leading figures of Italian silent cinema. Originally from Spain, where he began his career in theater, he moved to Italy in the early 20th century, becoming a familiar face in the productions of the major film companies of the era, such as Cines and Itala Film of Turin. His most famous role was that of the Roman patrician Fulvio Axilla in Giovanni Pastrone's epic film *Cabiria* (1914), a performance that earned him widespread international recognition. A skilled character actor, he was noted for his versatility, appearing in numerous historical-mythological films, such as *The Fall of Troy* (1911), and often working alongside Bartolomeo Pagano in the popular *Maciste* series, where he played supporting, and sometimes comedic, roles. His prolific career, inextricably linked to the golden age of silent film, declined with the advent of sound film.
