Brandon Hurst

Brandon Hurst was a British actor who worked primarily in theatre and film. His film career spanned the silent era and the early decades of sound, during which time he established himself as a prolific character actor. Specializing in antagonistic roles or sinister characters, he is best remembered for his portrayal of Jehan in the classic *The Hunchback of Notre Dame* (1923), alongside Lon Chaney. His reputation in gothic and mystery cinema was solidified by his role as the unsettling figure in Paul Leni's film *The Cat and the Canary* (1927). With the advent of sound, Hurst continued to work steadily, although often in supporting or uncredited roles in dozens of films, including *House of Frankenstein* (1944). Although he did not receive any major awards, his contribution is recognized for his strong screen presence and for helping to define the archetype of the antagonist in early horror and thriller cinema.
