
Bruce Allpress
Bruce Allpress (1930 – 2020) was a prolific New Zealand actor whose career spanned decades across theatre, television, and film. Internationally, he is best known for his brief but memorable appearance as Aldor in *The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers* (2002), the archer who looses the first arrow in the Battle of Helm's Deep. He also had a role in Jane Campion's critically acclaimed film *The Piano* (1993). His career in New Zealand was extensive, with roles in iconic productions such as the film *Came a Hot Friday* (1985) and the television series *Shark in the Park*. Also appearing in series like *Hercules: The Legendary Journeys*, Allpress was a respected and versatile figure in his country's arts scene. His significant contribution to the arts was formally recognized in 2017, when he was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM).
