
Burton Gilliam
Burton Gilliam is an American character actor, born in Dallas, Texas, on August 9, 1938. Before embarking on his film career, he served in the United States Coast Guard and worked as a firefighter in Dallas. He made his debut in the 1973 film *Paper Moon*, but he is universally known for the role of Lyle in Mel Brooks' cult comedy *Blazing Saddles* (1974). His prolific career includes appearances in films such as *Fletch* (1985), *Back to the Future Part III* (1990), and *Honeymoon in Vegas* (1992), as well as numerous appearances in television series from the 1970s and '80s, including *Charlie's Angels* and *The Dukes of Hazzard*. Known for his distinct Texan accent and screen presence, he has specialized in comedic or "tough guy" supporting roles. For his contributions to cinema, Gilliam was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame, an honor that celebrates entertainment figures with ties to the state of Texas.
