Camille Yarbrough, born on January 8, 1938, is a multifaceted American artist: a singer, songwriter, poet, and actress whose work is deeply connected to activism and the celebration of African American culture. She is known internationally primarily for her 1975 cult album, *The Iron Pot Cooker*, which blends soul, funk, and spoken word. The album's opening track, "Take Yo' Praise," achieved global fame decades later when it was sampled by British DJ Fatboy Slim for his renowned 1998 hit, "Praise You," bringing her voice to a new audience. In addition to music, Yarbrough's career extends to theater, with appearances in major productions of the Black Arts Movement, and to literature. She is also an acclaimed author of children's books; her work *Cornrows* (1979) has received numerous awards and accolades for its cultural value. For her role as a custodian of history and tradition, she is honored by her community with the title of Nana Camille Yarbrough.
