Carl Duering

Carl Duering (born Karl-Heinz Duering; 1923-2018) was a prolific German-British actor whose career is inextricably linked to his biography. Born in Berlin, he fled Nazi Germany in 1939 via the Kindertransport program, settling in England. This experience profoundly marked his career: he became one of the most in-demand character actors in British cinema and television to play German figures, often scientists, officers, or sinister characters, thanks to his authentic accent. Although he appeared in countless productions, his most iconic roles remain that of Dr. Brodsky, the "Ludovico Technique" specialist in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (1971), and Klaus Hergesheimer, the metallurgist who dines with Bond in Goldfinger (1964). He was also active on TV, acting in the Doctor Who serial "Image of the Fendahl" (1977) and in war miniseries like War and Remembrance.
