Carla Del Poggio

Carla Del Poggio (born Maria Luigia Attanasio; Naples, December 2, 1925 – Rome, October 14, 2010) was an Italian actress. She made her debut at a very young age in the "white telephone" films, directed by Vittorio De Sica in *Maddalena... zero in condotta* (1940). After her marriage to director Alberto Lattuada, her career took a decisive turn, establishing her as one of the most significant actresses of Neorealism with dramatic and complex roles. Her most celebrated performances include *Caccia tragica* (1947) by Giuseppe De Santis, for which she earned a special Nastro d'Argento, as well as *Senza pietà* (1948) and *Il mulino del Po* (1949), both directed by her husband. She also starred alongside Peppino De Filippo in *Luci del varietà* (1950), Federico Fellini's directorial debut, co-directed with Lattuada. From the mid-1950s, she made fewer film appearances to successfully devote herself to theater and television, before retiring from the stage and screen in the late 1960s.
