Carlo Reygadas Barquín

Carlos Reygadas Barquín, born in Mexico City in 1971, is a Mexican film director, screenwriter, and producer. Before dedicating himself to cinema, he studied international law, abandoning his legal career to pursue his passion for filmmaking. His debut feature film, *Japón* (2002), immediately brought him to international attention, receiving a special mention for the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. His subsequent works, often characterized by a contemplative style, the use of non-professional actors, and a rigorous aesthetic, have continued to garner acclaim. *Silent Light* (2007), shot in Mexico's Mennonite community, earned him the Jury Prize at Cannes, a festival where he also won the Best Director award in 2012 for the radical and autobiographical *Post Tenebras Lux*. His filmography, which explores spiritual, carnal, and existential themes, also includes *Battle in Heaven* (2005) and *Our Time* (2018), confirming him as one of the most original voices in contemporary cinema.
