Carole André
French actress Carole André, born in Paris on March 11, 1953, is the daughter of actress Gaby André. She made her film debut as a teenager, gaining recognition in Sergio Sollima's western *Faccia a faccia* (1967). Her career developed predominantly in Italy, where she took part in major productions such as Luchino Visconti's *Death in Venice* (1971) and Terence Hill's *Don Camillo* (1983). Her definitive breakthrough came in 1976 with the role of Marianna Guillonk, the "Pearl of Labuan," in the television series *Sandokan*, also directed by Sollima. The enormous success of the series, which won a Telegatto award, made her a popular icon throughout Europe and consolidated her artistic partnership with actor Kabir Bedi, with whom she also starred in *The Black Corsair*. After making fewer appearances in the 1980s, she retired from acting to pursue a career in architecture and design.
