
Carole Shelley
Carole Shelley (1939-2018) was a British actress known for her versatile career spanning stage, film, and television. She made her Broadway debut in 1965 in Neil Simon's *The Odd Couple* as Gwendolyn Pigeon, a role she reprised in the film adaptation. Her greatest success came in 1979 when she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her portrayal of Mrs. Kendal in the original production of *The Elephant Man*. Her extensive stage career also includes iconic roles such as Madame Morrible in the original production of *Wicked* and the grandmother in *Billy Elliot the Musical*, for which she received another Tony nomination. She is also known for her voice work in classic Disney animated films, lending her voice to Amelia Gabble in *The Aristocats*, Lady Kluck in *Robin Hood*, and Lachesis in *Hercules*.
