Cecil Kellaway (1893-1973) was a South African-born, naturalized American actor whose career developed primarily in Hollywood after an early start in Australian cinema. A well-known and versatile character actor, he played a wide range of supporting roles in numerous successful productions. His skill earned him two Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor: the first for the film *The Luck of the Irish* (1948) and the second for his final film appearance in *Guess Who's Coming to Dinner* (1967), as Monsignor Ryan. His other memorable performances include his portrayal of the betrayed husband in *The Postman Always Rings Twice* (1946), the understanding Dr. Chumley in *Harvey* (1950), and Veronica Lake's warlock father in the comedy *I Married a Witch* (1942). His long and prolific career established him as one of the most reliable and recognizable faces of classic American cinema.
